Culture and Tourism
Liverpool Labour is proud of Liverpool’s long cultural heritage. We understand how keenly aware of their history Liverpool’s residents are, and how proud they are of our city’s past.
We are also aware of how crucial our culture and tourism offer is to the city’s local economy: when we have well presented events attracting tourists, the city’s hotels and restaurants fill up and do business.
For these reasons, Liverpool Labour is committed to sustaining a bright, attractive and colourful calendar of cultural events.
We were proud and delighted to bring Sea Odyssey: A Giant Spectactular to Liverpool. This event – featuring 3 giant puppets walking around the city’s streets for three days in April 2012 – brought almost 1,000,000 visitors to Liverpool. The economic impact to the city was massive, with businesses reporting a 29% rise in trade during the event.
We will continue to lead the delivery of ambitious, ground breaking projects which will put Liverpool at centre stage.
We will continue to support the key cultural museums, art galleries and theatres of the city.
We will continue to drive an imaginative programme of events throughout the year.
We will continue to look for ways to show case Liverpool as a major European tourist attraction.
And we will look to expand events such as Liverpool Sound City, working with the event organisers to develop a festival which can compete at a national and international level as a major music spectacle.
