Liverpool Labour Putting Our City on the World Stage Once Again
Liverpool is preparing for one of the most exciting decades in our modern history — and Liverpool Labour is making sure our city is firmly back on the world stage.
In a landmark announcement, Cunard has confirmed that all four of its iconic Queens will sail into Liverpool together for the very first time in May 2028, creating a once-in-a-generation spectacle on the River Mersey and bringing global attention to our waterfront once again.
The arrival of Queen Mary 2, Queen Elizabeth, Queen Victoria and Queen Anne will mark a historic moment for our city and our maritime heritage. Liverpool is Cunard’s spiritual home, and this extraordinary event will celebrate the deep connection between our city and one of the world’s most famous shipping lines. The last gathering of Cunard ships in Liverpool attracted more than one million visitors — and 2028 is expected to be even bigger.
But this is about far more than ships on the waterfront.
Liverpool Labour has ambitious plans to make 2028 a defining year for our city — celebrating 20 years since Liverpool was named European Capital of Culture while showcasing our city to millions of people across the globe.
After years of Tory austerity that held cities like Liverpool back, we are once again thinking big, continuing to back culture, invest in tourism, and creating events that generate jobs, opportunities, pride, and economic growth for local people.
Alongside the Cunard Four Queens celebration, Liverpool will host matches during UEFA Euro 2028, bringing thousands of visitors and millions of viewers from across Europe to our city. Together, these events represent a huge opportunity to boost local businesses, support jobs in hospitality and tourism, and showcase the very best of Liverpool.
And Liverpool Labour is not stopping there.
We are already developing a bold international events programme that will cement Liverpool’s reputation as one of Europe’s leading destinations for sport, culture, and major events. Plans include bringing the prestigious Tour de France Grand Départ to Liverpool in 2027, creating a spectacular moment that would place our streets and communities before a global television audience of hundreds of millions.
We are also preparing to launch a major inclusive multi-sport and culture festival in May 2027 — a celebration of Liverpool’s diversity, creativity, and sporting spirit that will welcome people from all backgrounds and communities to take part in events across the city.
This is the Liverpool Labour vision for our city: ambitious, outward-looking, and confident about our future.
For too long, national governments treated places like Liverpool as an afterthought. Tory and Lib Dem cuts damaged local services, reduced investment, and held back the potential of communities across our city. But Liverpool Labour believes our city deserves to lead, not simply survive.
That means investing in culture alongside communities. It means creating opportunities for local businesses and young people. It means using major international events to drive regeneration, tourism, and pride in our city.
The return of Cunard’s Four Queens in 2028 will not simply be a celebration of our maritime past — it will be a symbol of Liverpool’s future: a confident world class city, leading once again on culture, sport, tourism, and international events.
