A series of improvement works to boost safety and accessibility have begun on Wavertree High Street and Picton Road.
Appointed contractor Aureos Highways will carry out planned improvements from the Spofforth Road junction to the Picton Clock Tower Roundabout across approximately 26 weeks.
Works include improved pedestrian crossing points and the installation of push-button crossings on all four arms of the junction between Picton Road and Rathbone Road and full carriageway resurfacing,
Introduction of a modern vehicle detection system to traffic signals along the route will aid better signal timings and have a positive impact on lane capacity.
All of the works have been planned with the aim of causing as little disruption as possible to residents, businesses and commuters.
Regular updates will be provided through the Council’s social media accounts while diversions to public transport routes will be posted on the Merseytravel website.
Councillor Dan Barrington, Labour’s Cabinet Member for Transport and Connectivity said: “The safety of all road users is a priority to us, whether they’re driving, walking or wheeling.
“Paula Barker MP and Labour Councillors have been campaigning to get improvements introduced. This is a particularly busy location, and we know residents have raised concerns about how difficult it can be to cross safely.
“These upgrades will make a real difference for pedestrians and will help create a safer, more accessible environment for everyone who uses the high street. Liverpool Labour are investing in our communities.”
